Water Service Line Inspection

In order to protect public health and continue providing high-quality drinking water, Fulton County is inventorying water service line materials to identify any public or private service lines that may need to be replaced.

To check your own water line material, please visit the Checking and Reporting your Water Service Line Material webpage.

If you are unable to self-report your water service line material, you can sign a temporary right of entry (ROE) form for an opportunity to have Fulton County’s contractor to check it. Please note that the contractor is only conducting material inspections at some properties, so signing this form does not guarantee an inspection.

To sign the ROE form, please visit this link.

To check the water service line material, Fulton County may be digging small test holes outside of your home to reach these pipes underground. At each test site, County crews or our contractor will dig two holes, approximately 12-inches by 12-inches, on either side of the meter to check the water service line material. It will take about 30 minutes to dig the holes and look at the pipe material. County crews and contractors will not enter your home. You do not need to be home. County crews and contractors will leave a doorhanger to notify you prior to the start of the work.

Once the water service line material is identified, the contractor will fill in the hole and level it with topsoil. Depending on the ground surface, the County will return to seed, pave, or replace sidewalks as needed to restore the area to its original condition.

CARING FOR FRESHLY SODDED GRASS:

After checking the water service line, the contractor will leave a door hanger noting your water service line's material. Please retain it for your records. If the line is lead or galvanized steel, you will receive additional information on how to protect yourself and your family from lead in drinking water with home flushing (running water) information.
